Introduction

Alan Greenberg, ALAC member from the North American Regional At-Large Organization (NARALO) and ALAC Liaison to the GNSO composed an initial draft of this Statement [PDF, 215 KB] after discussion of the topic within At-Large and on the Mailing Lists.

On 28 January 2014, this Statement was posted on the At-Large Proposal for a Specification 13 to the ICANN Registry Agreement to Contractually Reflect Certain Limited Aspects of ".Brand" New gTLDs Workspace.

The proposed Statement was then discussed on the ALAC Monthly Teleconference.

On that call, the Chair requested that an ALAC ratification vote on the Statement be opened. Staff confirmed that the vote resulted in the ALAC endorsing the Statement with 12 votes in favor, 0 votes against, and 0 abstentions. Summary

  1. The ALAC has no input on the details of Specification 13, but wishes to go on record as objecting to the creation of a new category of gTLD at this point, when earlier decisions were made to not have categories of TLDs supporting community, geographic and other similar classes of gTLD.
