Alan Greenberg, ALAC Liaison to the GNSO and At-Large member from the North American Regional At-Large Organization (NARALO) originally composed this Statement [PDF, 485 KB] after discussion of the topic on the mailing lists.

On 11 April 2012, a draft of the Statement was posted on the At-Large Statement on the Verisign Request to Implement Redemption Grace Period (RGP) for .name Workspace. On that same day, Olivier Crépin-Leblond, Chair of the ALAC, requested At-Large Staff to send a call for comments on the draft Statement to all At-Large members via the ALAC-Announce Mailing List.

On 17 April 2012, the Chair of the ALAC opened the matter for discussion on the ALAC Monthly Teleconference and then proposed holding a vote to ratify the Statement. This was seconded by several ALAC members and the vote resulted in the ALAC endorsing the Statement with 10 votes in favor, 0 against, and 0 abstention. The results may be confirmed on the Motions webpage from the Teleconference.

On that same day, the Chair also requested that the Statement be transmitted to the public comment process, copying the ICANN Staff member responsible for this public comment topic.
