Not very good.  Should I dare say... Sophomoric?  It suggests that we live in
world with no adult contract, moral or statutory obligations.  The way
enlightened governance works is that the individuals have the freedoms and the
institutions have the restrictions -- not your way. ICANN is under a duty to
serve. The GA participants are not. ICANN has contracts to act in a certain
way. GA participants do not. GA has duties as prescribed any entity contracting
with a government. The GA does not.

Most importantly ICANN has an obligation for transparency, accountability and
openness. The GA serves a very important function, to make note of these in a
reality check. It is subscribed to and reviewed by at least folks from at least
50 nations, Senators, Engineers, lawyers, polywogs, investors, entrepeneurs
......  It does not have a task of producing papers and it is not at all
beholding due to funding.  It is visited by current and past board members, Law
and policy workers, Staff, registrars and registrants.

Lately, without structure or need for structure it has been exploring and
examining the failures and underbelly of the closest thing to a competitor to
ICANN.  We should not review or approach the GA like a youngster on their first
science experiment -- do the assignment to come up with a result,,, but rather
watching and seeing what results occur.

I note that in your limited involvement as of late you address only the
failures of the GA and not any substantive issues regarding Internet Governance
or standard settings. Interesting that you complain of peoplle doing the same.

I think the great shame of this situation is that there are a lot of people
within this forum with huge amounts of knowledge that could contribute greatly
to the efforts of ICANN in providing workable solutions to the everyday
problems that any organization tasked with managing the internet in terms of
stability, interoperability and, most importantly, security will undoubtedly
face.  I would include you, Jeff and Eric in this group of people.

You have the knowledge but the shame is that you choose to use it in a
destructive way.  This is why the GA will never work again.  Until people like
you decide to play with the home team there is no hope for the GA.
Unfortunately, what you don't realise, is that you are playing right into
ICANN's hands.  ICANN can quite rightly say that they have a General Assembly
that anyone may participate in.  The fact that no one does is down to the likes
of you, Jeff and Eric and maybe one or two more.  You make it easy for ICANN to
ignore the general public as nothing tangible ever comes out of this forum.

Why don't you try to put your knowledge to good use?

I may be wrong Debbie. Maybe ICANN didn't give you a cookie. But I clearly
remember you being appointed or posted to some IDN working group. Am I mistaken?

cheers
joe

p.s. when you get your doctorate - let me know and I'll add you to the doctorQ.

I have not been appointed to any ICANN committees.  I am too busy with my
PhD.  Imagine that... I will be able to call myself Dr. Debbie... Gosh... I
really will fit in well here with all you other Doctors

;-)

How so?  As far as I know I have not received any rewards, inducements,
incentives or anything else you would like to accuse me of whilst I was List
Monitor.  I have not received any rewards either prior to or since - just in
case you were wondering :-)

But you did. After you resigned as list monitor what committee were you
appointed to? You can answer that one for us.

It would seem that people here miss my style of "dictatorship".

If you feel thats the case - then run for chair. Any support you think you have
will be tabulated in the votes.

As for the above statement - I hope your not begging me again to be list
monitor. You made a farce of this list - it's rules and processes - and the
agreements we had between us plus chair

A ruling was made that the allegations by an icann staff member (Patrick I
think it was) were vexatious. You overruled our decision and made a farce of it
all. So you have lost my trust.

But you may very well be right. This place may need a dictatorship. Let's vote.

Speak to your ICANN masters - just follow the leash from collar to hand - tell
them to give us our voting rights and provide the facilities to vote - and you
can offer yourself up as Chair.

I have to say, I don't read this list very often, and I don't miss it either.

I bet you read it all the time ... late at night ... under the covers ... while
pacing yourself with chatroulette. Just kidding ;)

Seriously Debbie. I think the stunt you pulled as monitor and the small morsel
you got back for it was not worth the effort.

You made it very clear back then your intent was to kill the GA. It didn't
work. But as Chair you may be able to swing it.

kindest regards
joe baptista

Ken. What a pleasure to see you speak up. There must be a fire somewhere.

Your someone who is very close to ICANN. Tell them we need them to provide
their side of the bargain and give us our right to vote back. You want a civil
forum - we need an election.

Also I have lost complete faith with ICANN since the Debbie incident. She must
be a good negotiator - she has been well rewarded. I'm glad in fact that is the
case because she did a good job of showing everyone on the GA what a
dictatorship would be like under debbie. Thank God she resigned. Did you
engineer that bit of nonsense.

Anyway ... send it up the pipe. Time for an election.

joe baptista

Its sad to see a forum for discussion, (purportedly ICANN related),

Hopefully subscribers can still find some value in it, but, I am
rapidly losing hope that
this goal is attainable..
