Roberto Gaetano, (in France)
This was a very good illustration of the problem that will arise when
and if ICANN
auctions off (AGAIN; remember .biz) TLDs that are already populated and
operational to
others who would set up duplicated existances for them (colliders) in the same
name space.
We at TLDA (www.tldainc.org) are established precisely to help avoid this
occurrence
through the collection and verification of operational standards of all
existing TLDs in all RFC
compliant roots and by protecting current TLD holders from being collided with
by rogue
operations such as those ICANN apparently wants to auction off in a year or so.
With all the
other government roots, as well as the smaller private roots, there is a need
to coordinate
TLDs so the internet need not be fragmented as the other Roberto Gaetano
suggests ICANN
is planning to do with their auction. Whatever the original intent and goal,
ICANN is now "a"
major root, not "the" authoritative root. Whatever ICANN may do, China will not
run its root, nor
the Arab world or Turkey. Many others will be following suit in the future. As
the world around
ICANN changes, ICANN needs to learn how to play better with others in order to
be respected.
They will not run the playground forever. Thier days in a leading capacity are
numbered.
