Debbie and all,

How do you take someting offlist that has already been posted to it?

In the case of libel to deleat any such refrence or even to infer doing so

is a clear violation of US law and a disruption of chainof evidance.

Seems your remarks in response below suggest doing so.

Private eMails being made public: I agree with Debbie to the extent

that those private emails have not before hand been sent to list

members offlist. If this is even suspected, posting those remarks

are in fact a matter of choice. However this should be left up to

the best judgment of each individual poster/list member on a case

by case basis, otherwise restricting speach in this manner on a public

list from private communication sharing disrupts an otherwise free flow

of information and perhaps important information. Such is also

a form of Select Censorship. All forms of arbitrary Censorship are

wrong, considered wrong under UN resolution, and US law.

However, any actions for libel should be taken off list. It is my hope that this forum can operate without behaviour that is likely to instigate such actions and this is why it is important to have rules for participation. The point of updating the rules is to try to steer people away from such behaviour for fear they would lose their posting rights.

However, from past experience, it can be helpful for the victim of such threats to post an Off Topic [OT] notification to the list especially if the member feels that other list members may be able to assist. I certainly think that the Chair and List Monitor should be made aware of the situation in case it spills over onto the list.
