Yes, I too feel that ICANN's directors have acted without giving the appearance that they have heard, much less considered, the views of the community of internet users. (It is not that the directors lack the ability - they have demonstrated on many an occasion that they listen with interest and favor to select industrial interests.) And, I too, feel that ICANN's directors have for the most part failed to articulate the basis for their decisions, including the information they used, the criteria they used, the assumptions they made, and the logic they followed. Indeed, for the most part I find ICANN's directors to be mere sheep who baa whenever "staff" or certain central members of the board ask them to baa. There are, of course, exceptions. The logic that Veni expresses about how he makes his decisions is a logic that is I do not understand. Here in the US we have a popular TV game show in which contestants are to describe facts in the form of questions. It's called Jeopardy. Veni's logic reminds me of that show, in which a contestant's response is invalid unless it ends with a question mark. But Veni's term is over, so can we move on to other matters, like the way that ICANN has transformed the DNS-scape into a very few feudal kingdoms that allow domain name business to operate only in a midaevil guild-like form and in which internet users are serfs, able to suffer and pay, but not to speak and be heard. --karl--
