Hi folks,
I was pleased to read in the latest report from ICANN that JAS recommended
mandatory drug testing, credit checks, and psychiatric exams for staff. See:
http://www.icann.org/en/announcements/announcement-16jun10-en.htm (page 26 of
the PDF)
Of course, this should also include Board members.
This is consistent with my own recommendation in April:
http://twitter.com/GeorgeKirikos/status/12644657684
so it's good to see that some of the external consultants read what the public
has to say, and draws upon those good ideas.
There is no need to wait for this recommendation to be implemented. Any
hesitation would be a sign that drug addicts, psychos and financially stressed
individuals are "at large" within ICANN staff and would give them a continuing
opportunity to put the DNS at risk. I suggest ICANN's Board put this at the top
of their agenda in Brussels. Indeed, new TLD registry operators (and existing
ones) should be subject to the same standards. I expect DAGv5 or DAGv6 to
include these recommendations.
The only question remains: how big will the exodus from ICANN be in advance of
these new recommendations being implemented?
Sincerely,
George Kirikos
