Abstract:
This presentation will provide an update of the preparatory phases of the review of ccNSO leading to the selection of the external contractor. It will also provide an overview of the timeline of the upcoming review: starting of operations, interactions with the community, data gathering, validation activities, final report of external reviewers, activities of the review Working Group.

Abstract:
IANA will present updates relating to root zone management, including readying for IDN ccTLD deployment, documenting its redelegation and management principles, signing the DNS root zone, and deploying root zone automation.
IANA Business Excellence Initiative - Leo Vegoda, IANA
Abstract:
The 2009-2012 Strategic Plan requires ICANN to “strive for excellence in core operations”. ICANN has started a Business Excellence program for the IANA functions, which aims to introduce a systematic and sustainable framework for improvement. This short presentation will introduce the activity.

Abstract:
This presentation describes the main findings of a recently published report on legal issues regarding WHOIS databases. The report is written by a researcher at the Norwegian Research Center for Computers and Law. The report critically analyses the legal framework for provision of WHOIS services, focusing on the .eu, .no and .com domains.

Internationalised WHOIS - Dave Piscitello, ICANN
Abstract:
Many Internet applications now accommodate many local languages and scripts.
Certain WHOIS services today support local languages and scripts, but unlike Internationalized Domain Names, no submission and display standards or guidelines exist for WHOIS services. Dave Piscitello will highlight the findings and recommendations from an SSAC study of this issue and will discuss how the ICANN community - in particular, the ccNSO - can participate in identifying a path forward.

Issues in Implementing a Domain Registration System at the LK Domain Registry - Gihan Dias, .lk
Abstract:
The LK Domain Registry is a small registry. We register names in a number of categories and for various time periods. We accept registrations both directly and through agents.
Until 1997, we updated zone files manually. Thereafter, we set up a homegrown php-based registration system.
By 2005, we found we needed more features, and looked for a replacement. We evaluated a number of available systems, and found that none of them met our requirements.
Therefore we decided to upgrade the existing system to provide the additional features we needed.

Abstract:
The information systems integration is a common practice in the Internet business, and for the top domain administrators with a registry/registrar model, it is a requirement to implement EPP protocol to integrate the processes and systems. For a ccTLD manager without registry/registrar model, the use of EPP protocol could help to make accurate the registration processes and prepare the route for a registry/registrar model. This is the case NIC-Internet Costa Rica, where the implementation of the EPP protocol is not just to implement registry/registrar model, but to improve the internal domain name registration processes increasing the security and reliability of the transactions.

The .AU ccTLD has seen record registration growth over the past few months. We have also conducted some cross-zone marketing initiatives that have proved successful in driving incremental registrations. Our work on implementing DNSSEC for .AU is nearing completion and we are working to promote the adoption of IPv6 within the Australian community.

DNSSEC for the Root Zone - Richard Lamb, ICANN

Presenter will describe the state of DNSSEC at the root and the cooperative effort between ICANN, VeriSign and US Department of Commerce to roll out an interim signed root by July 2010. A description of the work in progress on the overall architecture, security, and deployment will be provided along with aspects of community involvement in the process.
