RE: [registrars] Domain renewal spamming
Imagine how bad it would be if registrars were required to put through transfers without confirming with the domain owner first! Oh, wait... --On Tuesday, March 09, 2004 10:30 AM -0800 Paul Stahura <stahura@xxxxxxxx> wrote: Has anyone heard DROA is actually Osama Bin Laden? Chris, why don't you send the email you speak of to the list? We should all be aware of it, or are you just creating one of the many urban legends surrounding DROA? Regardless, in case you do not already know the following fact (I know some registrars do): DROA is not using eNom to perform transfers. Has anyone heard they are using Chris Kruk and DomainPeople? :) Paul -----Original Message----- From: owner-registrars@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:owner-registrars@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Christopher Kruk Sent: Tuesday, March 09, 2004 9:04 AM To: Larry Erlich; Eric Brunner-Williams in Portland Maine Cc: registrars@xxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [registrars] Domain renewal spamming We receive complaints from confused angry customers almost daily regarding this. Has anyone heard about how they send out an email asking to visit a link to confirm the customer's correct email address? The link is actually a transfer confirmation. We are seriously considering corrective action on behalf of our customers. I find it hard to believe a Registrar is not aware of this type of deceptive use of their DNR Reseller facilities. -Chris At 10:27 AM 3/9/2004, Larry Erlich wrote:Eric Brunner-Williams in Portland Maine wrote: > > > The Domain Registry of America ... > > Looks like its that time of year. As you can imagine, because of the similar name, we get a fair amount of calls from people that want their $85 or $25 refunded for a transfer that doesn't go through. It seems that they immediately charge a credit card upon placing the order and only refund money if specifically asked and after a waiting period. At least this is what I am told by their "customers".
