Re: [ga] RE: [ga] Decision on proposed .biz/.info/.org registry agreements postponed until São Paulo meeting

Well that's certainly going to fix the "tasting" situation.

ICANN fails again in the "spirit of the Internet" dept. Joe Average registrant will NEVER get their hands on any half pie decent domain name once that information is on sale.

Dominik,

In the immediate future none of us will need to worry
about the "domain tasting" phenomenon because it will
soon be replaced by something much, much worse...

The .com contract contains the following clause:

"Traffic Data . Nothing in this Agreement shall
preclude Registry Operator from making commercial use
of, or collecting, traffic data regarding domain names
or nonexistent domain names"

Why bother "tasting" a domain for its traffic
potential when you can simply buy a complete list from
VeriSign that indicates how many hits each nonexistent
domain received by way of "direct navigation"
attempts? This will be a typosquatter's dream.
...and of course, the registrars will be waiting in
the wings to profit from the release of this data.
