If only ICANN actually had policies about anything. The decisions thus far have been completely inconsistant on almost every single front. They want to review business plans for new TLD applicants, which is a policy decision, but don't want to interfere on other similar issues. It's like a child. Likes something one minute and not the next. Vint, an organization reflects it's leadership. When will ICANN have some?

  That's exactly the point. A proxy service is not a new idea, but now that GoDaddy has patent protection for it, what does that mean to their competitors in the domain registration business? How will this affect the reshaping of ICANN's Whois policy?

    patents are always being granted, trademarks too, that do nothing but confuse people and that should never be granted.

    Isn't that the same that has already been being done elsewhere?
