That's exactly the point. A proxy service is not a new idea, but now that GoDaddy has patent protection for it, what does that mean to their competitors in the domain registration business? How will this affect the reshaping of ICANN's Whois policy?

how is this new?
patents are always being granted, trademarks too, that do nothing but confuse people and that should never be granted.
Isn't that the same that has already been being done elsewhere?

GoDaddy was granted U.S. patent #7,130,878 on October 31,2006 for proxy domain name registration.
