Vint, you wrote:

"There are already several tables registered by IANA.
There is nothing wrong with choosing different tables
- one simply needs clarity with regard to permitted
registrations in any given TLD."

I happened to note this correspondence from NASK to
MINC on the topic of the IANA tables. I thought this
might be of interest to you.

Dear Mr. Fattal,

In regards to your letter to ICANN and IANA regarding
?Arabic
Language Table? posted by NASK, I would like to assure
you, MINC
and the Arabic community that our intention was never
to cause any disrespect to any community in any way
shape or form. Our intention was only to support not
only Polish speaking citizens but also all the
non-Polish speaking minorities living in Poland.

The Decision to launch the Arabic domains registration
under .pl along with all Latin based languages (i.e.
German, Slovak, Czech, French, and Lithuanian);
Cyrillic and Greek is based on the will to support the
tradition and culture of local ethnic groups and
minorities living in Poland which is our mission. NASK
is an organization naturally sensitive and respectful
to the needs of the Local Internet Communities. Our
focus is set on full support for Polish language
characters registration under .pl and the facilitation
of the adoption of Polish script registration under
other national DNS registries (ccTLDs) and global DNS
registries (gTLDs).

We recognize MINC as the leading organization
supporting and
leading the development for deployment of
Internationalized Domain Names and the
Multilingualization of the Internet through local
empowerment and the direct bottom up involvement from
the local language communities all over the world.

NASK?s recognition of the right of local language
communities
to determine their own language tables and standards
as your letter to ICANN and IANA had argued and
stressed has led us to write to ICANN and IANA and
request the withdrawal of our previous submission of
not only the Arabic language table but also the Greek
and Hebrew tables. Furthermore, we are also requesting
that these posting on the ICANN and IANA websites be
removed out of respect to these local language
communities.

I hope that this good faith action on NASK?s part can
provide
the opportunity for cooperation between MINC and NASK
regarding
the deployment of Internationalized Domain Names
towards a full
Multilingual Internet and supporting your efforts for
an Arabic
language Domain Names System. I was pleased to hear
your vision
and action plan on how to deploy a Global Multilingual
Internet
through local empowerment during your presentation at
the ICANN
IDN workshop in Kuala Lumpur July 21st, 2004 which we
at NASK
fully agree with and support.

Yours sincerely,
Andrzej Bartosiewicz
Head of DNS Dept., NASK
