Re: [ga] potential IDN confusion issue with Greek language domains
Who cares? The mess is to ask people to use Greek.com and not to permit
them to use Greek.Greek names. Hower make sure that the HELENIC (whatever
the real name) does not apermit registrants to register the two names with
a discount. There is no other practical way. NICs try their best, but they
are supposed to be dumb neutral registries only.

It appears the people at CENTR are aware of the accent issue with Greek
IDNs, see: www.centr.org/docs/2003/06/centr-ga18-davies-idn.pdf
This brings up the obvious question(s): What is to be done now that the
IDNs are live? Will there be a recall of some kind? What happens to
everyone who already registered Greek IDNs if there is?
Seems to me, this has all the makings of a really fine mess...

This time round, I have noticed what I believe to be a bona fide issue
with the IDN specs as applied to the Greek language; it has to do with
accents. It is currently possible to register IDN domains in Greek with
AND without the applicable accents, such that two separate registrations
for the same word can exist, albeit one lacks the applicable accent
marking(s). I believe this can lead to a very real and serious confusion
issue.
For example, the addresses åëëÜò.com and åëëáò.com have been separately
registered.
