All,

Seems that DOJ has finnaly taken the perverbial bull
by the horns as it were as ICANN's registrars/registries
were either unable or unwilling to deal with the problem
more directly. Lets hope due process will not be circumvented
here howerver... Lets also not take too much stock in such
legislation either as enforcment will require in some to many
instances the cooperation of the 'Hosting' government from which
these piracy activities originate AND the effectiveness will be
limited also by the fact that these pirates will and have simply
moved from one site to another to avoide detection and/or censure.
My suggestion to enhance this legislation would be to add language
that would under certain circumstances provide for a sanction that
would also shut down the Registrar/Registry if they be a gTLD
ICANN Registrar/Registry that harbors or provides temporary
sanction to these Pirates.

Proposed US legislation would allow the US Justice Department (DoJ) to
seek court orders to shut down websites that facilitate piracy anywhere
in the world. The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act
would allow the DoJ to ask for injunctions that would order US domain
registrars and registries to cease resolving the domain name of piracy
sites.
