Lauren and all,
This should come as no surprise, and it certainly doesn't to me.
However I am sure that the biggest problem here arises from the
fact that back in 2002 ICANN chose via a ICANN GNSO decision
upheld by the board that Domain Name speculation would be
not only allowable but desired. As such, the creation of
a similar TLD market rose to exist even more prevelent than
originally considered giving rise to what you are rightly
reporting even if it is long after the fact...
