Personnel.

After the Jones Sanction I got to looking at ICANNs hiring practices a little
more closely.
I don't think Waldeim proteges are that big a problem. But I do see an alarming
trend to hire beauracrats. Lifers. Folks with no real interest in the
Assignment of. People whos experience and motivation is toward the perpetuation
of the machinations that make thier job, not secure but, essential. Clearly
this is a generalisation. Clearly there are people who care about the mission,
but generally not that many.
I would bet if you asked most staffers about thier job duty ---- a stable and
secure and accessible internet would never come up.

(certainly Kent cares, as do Glenn and most BoD members. And yes the Jones
Sanction is being made into a movie, -- sequel to Into the Wild Abyss)

Jobs Website Goes Live

17 April 2009

A new jobs website for ICANN has gone live today, providing those interested in
working for the organization with a simple and effective way to view current
vacancies as well as apply for jobs online.

The new site at http://icanncareers.silkroad.com/ can also be accessed from the
ICANN homepage by clicking on the "Apply for a job" link at the
bottom.

The Human Resources department has been developing new tools to attract
high-quality candidates from around the world as well as streamline and improve
the process for joining the organization's staff. The new website is just
one of those tools.

The site makes it easier for prospective employees to learn about the
corporation's role with respect to the Internet's stability, security,
and operability. And it should be much easier to view job openings as well as
review and compare the benefits associated with working for ICANN.

The site speeds the review and evaluation of candidate applications that can
lead to interviews and, ultimately, hiring. It also enables the organization to
track candidates' progress through the process as well as link
candidates' skillsets to other, and possibly new, positions.

This site also features a number of tools to help potential candidates get
started, including a place to upload existing resumes and a simple online form
for anyone wishing to learn more about ICANN job opportunities as they become
available.
