Does the Registrar Constituency have a code of ethics?
This isn't a problem with a registrar, it is a problem with a DNS
provider. I realize that GoDaddy is accredited, but providing DNS
service is not part of the function of a registrar accreditation
(although most registrars do provide DNS automatically for the
registrations they sponsor).
The good news is that switching DNS providers is incredibly easy,
doesn't require any permission from anyone and can be run by yourself
if you can't find a suitable provider.
I'd also question really if this is a problem in the first place.
Providing DNS is a highly competitive function and users are
completely free to choose their provider (or do it themselves). If
you don't like how your provider offers up your zone file, doesn't it
make sense to simply change to one you do like? The switch can happen
in minutes (although news of the switch can take a few hours to get
out to all the other DNS servers...)
It does suck that stuff like this goes on without user knowledge or
consent though. It would be nice if this stuff was presented up front
in the purchase process and not buried in the fine print (or hidden
entirely).
