A powerful message Jeff, thanks. I expressed dismay in my initial response to 
Katim, because I too find it troublesome that not all Councillors can attend 
our weekend sessions.

However, I would be against making any session mandatory for folks. We all have 
personal circumstances that may force us to miss meetings, be they our own 
interests or work issues or anything else. Being a volunteer on the Council is 
hard enough on each of us as it is, I do not think there should EVER be a case 
where a Councillor is obliged to be present (and what would be the punishment 
for those who aren't?).

As Councillors, we all take our responsibilities to the body we serve very 
seriously. At least that's the feeling I get from working alongside you all. My 
suggestion: let's just trust people to be as responsible as possible, and give 
them some freedom to slip out of the room sometimes when there are other things 
of interest to them.

That being said, I have fought tooth and nail over the past year to ensure that 
there are as little conflicts as possible with any GNSO sessions over the 
entire ICANN meeting week (including our open meeting on the Wednesday), and I 
will continue to do so, and ask for the Council's support in doing so.
