Magnolia Mansourkia - Internet Service and Connectivity Providers Constituency
Statement of Interest
3 September 2009
My name is Magnolia Mansourkia and I am an attorney by trade. I am currently employed by Verizon Communications as Assistant General Counsel and Chief Privacy Counsel. In that capacity, I am responsible for leading Verizon’s global compliance with all data protection laws and internal policies. I lead cross functional teams involving personnel from the legal, business, marketing, IT and security departments to develop, implement and enforce internal practices involving privacy and related security issues. In addition, I support the development of company policy on a variety of Internet policy issues and emerging technology standards, including representation of Verizon on the ISPCP. I provide advice to internal Verizon clients on policy and operational strategy on data protection legislation, global information use practices, enterprise customer agreements as well as implementation and compliance initiatives for Verizon’s business units in the US and internationally.
I have been a privacy practitioner since 2000, and a member of the ISPCP since 2001. During that time, I have represented my employer and ISP interests in a variety of external organizations providing policy and privacy expertise to policy and legislative bodies, including but not limited to, testifying state legislatures on data protection matters, and as a subject matter expert before the Federal Trade Commission on privacy, spam prevention and network abuse issues. I participate in a number of trade associations on behalf of Verizon, and these associations have other representatives who may participate in the ICANN policy making process. Currently, I serve as the president of the Internet Commerce Coalition, which is a trade association serving ISP privacy, security and liability interests. Verizon is a member of this association.
Notwithstanding representing the interests of Verizon and the ISPCP within ICANN, I do not have any financial, personal or other stake in any organizations that contract with ICANN or rely on ICANN as the sole or majority source of revenue. I have no commercial or ownership interests related to the policy work before the Council.
