RE: [registrars] My recent non-participation
Adrian, No offence taken about the previous comment. However, id just like to clarify that my note mentioned '3-5 star hotels'. So my list also includes several 5 star hotels that are below $400. In any case, I've received requests from people that are visiting with their family, and require alternatives to 5 star hotels. Therefore, adding 3 & 4 star hotels will only ensure that it serves the requirement of a wider audience. Additionally, John Berryhill has rightly suggested that I make the list accessible to all in the constituency, so I've enclosed the same here. Be advised that the information contained in the excel is purely what each of these hotels have claimed over a phone call, and has not been verified by us, or any other 3rd party. We've also sent this over to ICANN for negotiating volume discounts. I apologise if it came across that way. I was simply stating that it is an indictment on the Meeting Organisers that we have to look for lesser grade hotels in order to be able to afford them (or even fit into them)... it is hardly an appropriate "solution". I could be mistaken, but I didn't realize that Directi was responsible for accommodating delegates. Seems to me Sandeep is going out of his way to improve a situation that is not of his causing. I think it is a little disappointing that your (and ICANN's it seems) solution to accommodating delegates at an appropriate pricing level is to look for potential 3 and 4 star hotels. I don't really think that this is acceptable and that ICANN has certainly dropped the ball on the timing and venue of this meeting. Fortunately though, I have some people in my team that are naturally motivated to ensure that nothing deters delegates to visit Delhi in full strength. They took up the initiative of finding cheaper alternatives, and were very effective. They've zeroed in on 4-6 alternatives, all within 7 miles of the conference venue, 3-5 star, and between USD 200 - 400 / night. I'll be sending these details to ICANN by tomorrow, with a request to negotiate a bulk deal and allow everyone to take advantage of the volumes. Meanwhile, if anyone would like to talk to these hotels directly, just ping me and ill be happy to share this list with you.
