  • Thread-topic: Regarding participation on multiple task forces

It appears that at least Tim, Ross and I have pledged to do so. I would urge the other candidates to similarly pledge to work on only 1 task force if elected to several. Not only would it be more productive because the task forces tend to be time consuming, the constituency would benefit from the participation of as many different people as possible.

Further on the issue of several task forces, I thought it might be helpful to state where I think my participation would be most helpful. I was nominated for the data mining and accuracy task forces, and while I believe that I would contribute to either task force, my work on the Whois has focused on data mining. As you know, I have been working other constituencies, the GAC, and ICANN to advocate for data mining solutions that don't require contractual changes in order to foster such solutions in a shorter time frame. In that vein, I have been asked to help coordinate and speak at several Whois work shops. I have fairly and without bias represented different registrars' views and potential solutions.

One thing that I would contribute on either task force is my proven ability to work with other constituencies and governments to advocate strongly for registrars' positions without offending them so that agreement can be found. Whoever we choose for any of these task forces will need to find a diplomatic way to be a strong advocate for registrar interests.

Hope that's helpful.
Thanks,

Hello Tim,

What I recommend is that if one person is elected to more than one task force, that person makes a choice as to their preferred task force, and resigns from the other task force/s. The registrars constituency could then appoint the person with the next highest number of votes to the task force/s.

ie if a person truely believes they have the time to spend on multiple task forces then that should be their choice, but I such a person consider this very carefully.

Regards,
Bruce

Bruce,

Agreed. I do not want to be on multiple task forces. But I would like to be on at least one of them. I think that may be why some of us have accepted multiple nominations. Any resultant policy from any of these three task forces will impact registrars/registries (implementers) and registrants (registrars' customers) more than any other stake holders.

Perhaps the Executive Committee could suggest a way to resolve the issue if one person should get elected to multiple task forces. I don't think there is enough time to hold them sequentially.

Tim

Hello All,

Just a general comment.

It is preferable that we have a separate person for each task force, rather than end up with a person serving on multiple task forces due to the work load involved.

Regards,

Bruce Tonkin

Thanks Bob.

I would also like to nominate Tim Ruiz for Accuracy and Data Collection and Display. I would also like to nominate Brian Cute for the Accuracy and Data Collection task forces. Either of them would do a great job.

I believe that we have a very good set of candidates here, and although the Council has asked for only 1 rep to each, would hope that the eventual choice of the constituency to any of these task forces would work very closely with the other nominees on this list.

Thanks
