Bruce asked me to forward the message below to the list.

Bruce thanks again for making this change
(or actually, not changing .org so that the registry holds onto our
funds during RGP)

Paul,

Thanks for your comments. Would you please post this note to the
registrar list?

Yes, PIR will continue to insure that registrars get a refund at the
time of deletion when a domain is deleted during the 45 day autorenewal
period.

Sometimes examples are best. Say a domain registration expires on 1
October. It would then enter an "autorenew" period through
approximately 15 November. The $6 fee for the domain would be charged
on October 2, the day it enters the "autorenew" period. If the domain
was indeed deleted between 2 October and 15 November (in this example),
the credit for the $6 would occur at that point. This is how the
process essentially works today, and it is how it will work when we
automate RGP. I use the word "essentially" because I believe that the
credit to the registrar account occurs within 24 hours of the deletion,
and it will probably work that way with the automated RGP - we need to
run automated tasks to do the credits, so expect that the refund will
not be longer than 24 hours, it may be significantly less than that.

We will announce the new release date for the automated RGP process
within the next few weeks. Since we de-coupled some whois changes (to
mirror the display on our whois as is in the RAA) and some performance
enhancements to the software, we will have two releases - one within the
next month or two, and one a little later on. Both these dates will be
communicated with at least 30 days notice for each.

Thanks for your and other registrar's constructive comments. PIR
encourages continued feedback on our processes and systems - it gives us
a win-win position - registrars can service and satisfy their customers
needs better, and in turn we continue to refine our systems as we strive
to be a model registry.

Regards,

Bruce

Bruce,

Thanks for listening to the recommendation/feedback.
Since you didn't state what exactly are the changes you will be making,
I assume you will be changing the registry back-end so that the registry
will
credit registrars accounts when registrars delete names instead of
holding our money until the end of RGP.
Can you verify my assumption?
If that is your intent, I congratulate you and PIR in this
and I look forward to your posting of the release date.
I am hopeful that Afilias will follow your lead with .info as then
they would be the only major registry to not credit on deletion.

Thanks and regards,
Paul

	Elana,

Would you please post the following to the Registrar
Constituency
mailing list?

Though I would not normally request that you consider posting
regular communication from PIR to registrars, in this case, this delay
in
our software implementation is based on the valued feedback we received
from
members of the Registrar Constituency who posted on the RC mailing list.

	Thanks in advance.

	Regards,

	Bruce

	Dear Registrars,

Please be advised that PIR is delaying the release of the
Redemption
Grace Period (RGP) Phase II automation process for the .ORG TLD,
originally
scheduled for on 25 October 2003.

We have received feedback from our registrar customers in regard
to
RGP Phase II. You have suggested a more efficient method to implement
the
automation of RGP Phase II, one which will better serve you, our
registrars
and your customers. PIR has reviewed and incorporated your
recommendations.
Based on your valuable feedback, PIR will enhance our software to more
effectively meet our customers' needs. We will inform you shortly of
the
new RGP Phase II release date.

As part of the originally scheduled outage, PIR was planning on
conducting some database maintenance activities. Those activities will
still occur; therefore there will be a system outage between 15:00 and
19:00
UTC on 25 October 2003. During this period, the shared registration
system
and contact preload system will be unavailable. Registering and
manipulating
domain names and other registry objects will not be possible but domains
will continue to resolve normally.

Also during this maintenance period, the WHOIS service will be
interrupted between 15:00 and 17:00 UTC.

Please note that both .ORG OT&E Systems for EPP and RRP will
remain
functional during the maintenance and there will be no interruption to
registrars performing the OT&E Tests.

PIR appreciates the feedback and continued support from you, our
valued registrar customers.

	Regards,
