Re: [ga] keeping expired domains by a registrar

Hi Andy,

The registry servers are not hammered 24/7 as you suggest. Each registry has
their own daily deletion schedule and registrars attempt to register domains
during that particular timeframe.

According to your proposal, each registrar should have only 1 registration
attempt at each deleting domain. What happens if a registrar has 100
different customers who want the domain? Does this mean that only the first
customer at a registrar should have a chance? Should the other 99
registrants be forced to use smaller registrars who only have a few
customers to increase their chances and avoid this problem? Should
registrants be encouraged to use rogue registrars like Registerfly instead
of leading registrars like GoDaddy, Network Solutions or eNom? Should
registrants be forced to use multiple registrars vs. being able to
consolidate with 1 reliable registrar? IMO, your proposal would only
encourage the creation of hundreds of phantom registrars, like that of the
highly criticized .eu sunrise.

Sincerely,
Ted
