Today, between 10:00 UTC and 12:00 UTC, the root name servers (several
of them) and the UltraDNS servers (which host ".org", ".info" and
other TLDs) suffered for what was apparently a large dDoS, may be the
largest since 2002 (http://www.isc.org/ops/f-root/october21.txt).
It is not completely over, the ICANN network is still under attack:
http://lists.oarci.net/pipermail/dns-operations/2007-February/001220.html
You can see what happens to the G root name server:
http://dnsmon.ripe.net/dns-servmon/server/?server=g.root-servers.net&show=SHOW
and to L:
http://dnsmon.ripe.net/dns-servmon/server/?server=l.root-servers.net&show=SHOW
