Dear members of the Interim At-Large Advisory
Committee,
On 4 December 2005, an ICANN announcement indicated:
"We also note the existence of a policy development
process on new gTLDs and strongly believe that this
policy development process should be informed by the
results of the comments received on the proposed
contract for .com and settlement with VeriSign."
On 11 December 2005 the ICANN Staff posted a summary
and analysis of the comments received.
I have taken note of the Committee's discussions on
the ICANN Staff work-product and wish to ask whether
the Committee will be indeed be producing it's own
timely summary and analysis of public comments as a
counterpoint to the Staff documents?
I'm sure that you can appreciate the fact that as the
individual users that participate on the General
Assembly discussion list move through the discussion
phases pertaining to the GNSO PDP on new TLDs, this GA
working group could take some benefit from At-Large
input.
The participants in this endeavor are scheduled to
commence discussions on point four of the Terms of
Reference -- Policy to Guide Contractual Conditions
for New Top Level Domains -- on 26 December; I look
forward to any input that either the Committee or
their respective At-Large structures could provide by
that date which would guide our deliberations on
contractual conditions.
I also cordially invite the members of the ALAC to
participate in policy discussions on the GA list. We
are currently reviewing point #2 in the Terms of
Reference -- Selection Criteria for New Top Level
Domains. To subscribe to the list, please feel free
to contact the GNSO Secretariat.
Thank you for your consideration of this request, and
I look forward to a time when the ALAC will allow
individual users to participate in policy discussions
within an ALAC discussion/mailing list.
Best regards,
Danny Younger
