[ga] BT puts block on child porn sites

All former DNSO GA members or other interested stakeholders/users,
A new and perhaps very dangerous precedent has been set.
Of course INEGroup members are strongly opposed to any
form of Child porn, yet also just as strongly opposed to
Censorship in any of it's ugly forms. Our members believe
that many other methods for users are available and useful
in fighting Child porn on the net without this sort of broad
brush stroke of an approach...
Some questions one might consider when thinking about this
very bold move...
Has Censorship of this nature a step towards of things to come?
Will large child porn friendly domain names/ISP's be next such as
Wanadoo.fr, Tiscali.co.uk, telstra.com.au, 123.com, Att.net ect. see
their Email users now blocked from effective use in the UK and maybe
elsewhere? How soon will many more ISP's or other IAP's soon
be endorsing this type of Censorship? Have SIG's carved out a
significant inroad to the internet to effect a form of social reform
without the consent or even consideration of ALL of the
stakeholders/users? Can such social engineering endeavors in
other areas of society be so broadly censored in the future in
this manner? What if so, will the cost's to stakeholders/users
be in economic terms, not to mention other social aspects?
Will law enforcement agencies all over the world be now
limited in tools to track down Child porn operators of
various types? Will Child porn operators on the internet
find new and harder to track methods to circumvent
this sort of blocking stratagy/method?
Excerpts from Article:
"British Telecom has taken the unprecedented
step of blocking all illegal child pornography websites in a crackdown
on abuse online. The decision by Britain's largest high-speed internet
provider will lead to the first mass censorship of the web attempted in
a Western democracy."
And...
"Blocking websites is highly controversial and until now has
been associated only with oppressive regimes such as Saudi
Arabia and China, which have censored sites associated with
dissidents. But many in the field of child protection believe
that the explosion of pedophile sites justifies the crackdown."
