All,
After reading the one comment on this comment forum, I yet
again recognized and sympathized with Mr. McGookin's
plight and certainly justifiable complaint. But it is by no means
a new complaint or plight. It is one that is and has been common
place and frequently reported to ICANN's staff in the past,
as well as the Registrar's involved with this less than reasonable
practice to which Mr. McGookin has been victimized by, see:
http://forum.icann.org/lists/new-irtp-issues/msg00000.html which
he describes quite simply but accurately. His question in his
comments is also quite relevant in respect to the MOU and the
often errant behavior of several registrars. Where is the ICANN
staff's oversight? Still asleep at the switch, or still playing self
aggrandizement resume fluffing games on Wikipedia? Does the
ICANN staff even know how to do proper, prudent and diligent
oversight of its contracted agents, namely in this case, Registrars?
Our members take on IRTP is fairly simple. It goes something
like this:
1.) No registrar should accept proper names as a domain
name registration in .COM or .NET, and never should have.
And all current DN's that are themselves proper names
or depict same, should be migrated to the .NAME TLD
name space and only by the original registrant who's name
is that character string.
2.) All expired Domain Names of any registrar should go into the
"Pool" and the original registrant should have first option in
a reasonable amount of time, say three months to renew that
registration, without penalty
3.) Domain Name warehousing should not be allowed. All currently
warehoused DN's must be turned over to the registry that is
appropriate for re-registration forthwith.
4.) Domain Name speculation and/or auctioning should not be allowed
and discontinued forthwith.
