John and all my friends,

  Good questions.  Seems to me that there is a desire on some
folks part to be less than transparent under the guise of being
board members of an organization that properties to be attempting
to represent users.   Such would leave the effect of what the ICANN
Board has done and therefore engender distrust accordingly.  This
whole idea doesn't pass the smell test...
