No there is no rule. And all the claims it's a bad idea don't cut the
mustard. Yes on many legacy systems it's a bad idea becase alot of
automated agents depend on a NOERROR or NXDOMAIN for dns. The get
confused when they get a reply.
Wildcards in fact are a good thing from the dns perspective. They
reduce overall traffic to the zone.
