RE: [council] Blog on the Multistakeholder Ethos Award Nomination Process

Thanks John,

I propose to put your name and my name forward to David Olive for the committee
for this particular award.

If there is one other volunteer (and both the Council VCs have indicated they
could make themselves available) who is very keen, we could add them.

But … I don’t sense it is absolutely necessary to add a third and, if so, it
needs to be ASAP.

All,

David Olive needs people with good experience (ideally 5 years or more in order
to assist with evaluating contributions of a similar length of time) to join
the panel of community members to review nominations.

He asked me if I was willing and able to join and, in turn I mentioned it to
the Council Vice Chairs. They are both potentially willing but could also
defer to an experienced and interested volunteer.

If you are particularly interested in joining the evaluation panel and have the
experience to do so, please let me know as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Jonathan

Last week, ICANN launched the nomination period for the first Multistakeholder
Ethos Award. ICANN President and CEO Fadi Chehadé initially proposed the award
at ICANN 48 in Buenos Aires. A formal public comment forum
<http://www.icann.org/en/news/public-comment/multistakeholder-ethos-award-06jan14-en.htm>
this past January sought input from the ICANN community for this effort.

This award program seeks to recognize community members who have served in
leadership roles in multiple ICANN working groups or committees and
demonstrated collaboration with different supporting organizations and/or
advisory committees. ICANN hopes to acknowledge community participants who have
deeply invested in consensus-based solutions, affirmed the importance of
ICANN’s multistakeholder model for Internet governance, and contributed in a
substantive way to the higher interests of ICANN’s organization and its
community.

Candidates for the award will demonstrate at least five years of participation
in the ICANN community. Both individuals and organizations are eligible for the
award. A panel of community members is being convened to help review all
nominations and determine the best candidates for the first awards. Winners for
this award will be established on a merit-based point system evaluated against
three criteria:

1. Demonstrated multistakeholder volunteer service via working groups or
committees.
2. Demonstrated spirit of collaboration through engagement with other
community members with the aim of consensus building.
3. Demonstrated facilitator of dialogue and open discussion in a fair,
cordial and collegial manner.

ICANN is currently seeking nominations. The nomination period opened 21 April
2014 and closes on 17 May 2014. Community members interested in submitting a
nomination are invited to send an e-mail to ethosaward2014@xxxxxxxxx including:

1. Name of nominee.
2. Community of nominee.
3. Reasons for nomination.

Reasons for outlining the candidate’s merit for the nomination may be as brief
or as long as required.

The selection panel looks forward to receiving and reviewing nominations in the
coming weeks. Selected award winners will be presented at ICANN 50 in London.
Community members are critical to ICANN’s success, and ICANN is committed to
recognizing them for their efforts through the Multistakeholder Ethos Award.
