Re: [ga] Verisign has broken IDN?

Two rumours I have heard:
1: Verisign's IDN plugin for IE6 breaks IDN support in IE7. Has to be
manually disabled. If a user upgrades from IE6 to IE7, all IDN's stop
working.

2: China has blocked access to verisign-grs.com. It appears that
Verisign's plugin needs to access idn.verisign-grs.com to actually
work properly (not sure why) but this has effectively killed off all
IDN based websites for people in China using ie6 - even IDN websites
hosted within China.

Comments anyone?

The CNNIC distributes its own plug-in for free which support mail. We saw Vint Cerf in Athens checking it on the screen during X. Lee's presentation.

Something one forgets. There are major differences between Domain Names, IDNs and Chinese names in the public's mind.

- DNs are an AmerICANN business one must live with, discounted at $ 8.
- two keyboards IDNs are a business trap for English speaking cybersquatters.
- Chinese names are a business presence on the Chinese market just for $ 50.
