George and all former DNSO GA members or other interested parties,

You still don't seem to get it to a very great degree that ICANN has
contractual restrictions on what it can actually do as it locked itself
and all .COM/.NET stakeholders/users, which is essentially any
internet user, into a Verisign a registry, control over uses of
the .COM and to a lesser degree, .NET zones. Now we all are
paying that price or benefiting from Verisignes wisdom, depending
on how you "View" this use of Wildcards...

My only suggestion to ICANN would be to breach that contract
to Verisign which ends I believe in 2007, and than renegotiate
a new and much more specific contractual arrangement with
Verisign to include when, and perhaps IF, any registry may
use Wildcards and how they can be used amongst other
technical issues, or let the market place of stakeholders/users
decide...

I would bet however that Verisign and perhaps very few of
ICANN Registries will be interested in such a renegotiation
of their current Registry contracts at this time of in the
immediate future.

SO in conclusion, ICANN itself is not in any position to
force or effect any serious change in what Verisign does
with the .COM zone or root server. Hence leaving
ICANN to be seen as impotent or ineffectual to a very
great degree.

  And so the saga continues...
