Bruce, let's first hear from the NZ chair describing the situation. Keith, can you share with us the view of InternetNZ? 

AT&T is a member of InternetNZ, but the definative messages/explanation of hwat has happended must from the chair/exe.director.

With reference to the latest .nz (New Zealand) newsletter below it
appears that the WHOIS service was data mined to allow a massive
unsolicited marketing campaign aimed a deceiving registrants.
