Tom:
ICANN has requested our comment on this travel issue, as it is trying to
determine how much to put in its upcoming budget for travel. That will
happen regardless of the status of GNSO reform. For purposes of this
exercise, we should just assume the status quo for the GNSO.
Thanks.
Jon

I do not think that we should spent time to develop a travel support
policy if we do not even know what the outcome of the GNSO reform will
be.
Best,
tom

Betreff: [registrars] REMINDER: Feedback Requested re ICANN
Travel Support Policy
Hi everyone, just a friendly reminder to please send me your
input and feedback re ICANN's Travel Support Policy. Here are some
ideas to get your gears turning.
Should travel expenses be ICANN funded but constituency
directed? What about ICANN's fiduciary controls?
Should travel support be proportional to a constituency's ICANN
contribution?
What about needs based travel? Or funding for people who have
non-financial, public interests in attending the meetings?
As noted in my earlier e-mail request (below) there is a
transcript from the Delhi meeting where these questions came up.

Please send your feedback by tomorrow. No particular format
necessary, just share your thoughts. Thank you!

Subject: Feedback Requested: ICANN Travel Support Policy
Greetings RC Members:
First up, I want to extend a warm and sincere thank you to all
the RC members who contributed feedback for our first Position Paper
earlier this month (re GNSO Reform). We're putting the finishing
touches on that Paper now and it should be ready to circulate shortly.
Today I'm writing you because I need your feedback about a new
subject: ICANN'S Travel Support Policy.
Below is a short overview:
"Explanation: ICANN is looking to create a documented,
consistent policy that makes it clear when, for whom, and how ICANN will
provide travel support for the wide range of volunteers who make ICANN's
community-based work possible. As ICANN becomes a more mature
institution, it is important that we determine the proper approach to
participation and travel support, and determine what is sustainable."
More information is available here:

If you attended the recent Delhi meeting you might recall some
live discussion concerning the Travel Policy.
A PowerPoint presentation from the Delhi meeting is available
here:
https://delhi.icann.org/files/TravelSupportExpenseDiscussion_0208.pdf ,
and a transcript of the session is available here:
https://delhi.icann.org/files/Delhi-WS-TravelPolicy-13feb08.txt. Please
have a quick look at these docs for a full overview.
ICANN has provided us with a 30 day comment period. The clock
began running last week, so please send me your comments as soon as
possible.
To ensure that we meet ICANN's deadline for submitting our
Position Paper, please send me your comments before Friday, April 11.
Please e-mail your comments to: clarke.walton@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx ...
Thank you!
