One last e-mail on this subject: [registrars] FW: [ga] Soccer in Lisboa - IV Tournament
First, let me apologize to those people on the RC distro that have no
interest in soccer, but this is the best way for me to communicate with
everyone prior to ICANN and send one final call for players. I also
need to coordinate the details for our team(s).
I have recorded everyone's name who expressed interest in playing in the
soccer tournament for the registrar's team. 15 people responded with a
"yes". If you change your mind, please reply to "sender only" and let
me know. If you have committed to play, expect that you will be playing
from 8pm to 11pm on Wednesday barring health issues or some emergency.
Your teammates are counting on you.
Rob suggested last week that have two teams if we have enough people. I
thought that we could have North America Team (US & Canada) and a Rest
of World Team which is actually only players from Europe based on those
who committed to play. We have 8 US/Canada based people and 7 European
players. As long as everyone shows up, we will be fine with two teams.
Both teams have space for another player or two and we still need women.
Are there any objections to this plan? Jordi has agreed to captain
European team and I will agree to captain the North America team unless
anyone else wants to organize. If everyone is fine with this plan, I
will contact the organizers and let them know that we will field two
teams.

Perhaps we have enough for 2 teams, because I know the soccer stars from
Enom have not yet been heard from.
Rather than first come first served and who was on email today, I
suggest we keep the list going, and if we have enough, enter 2 teams
(hopefully in different pools !)
Rob.

Steve,
I will be there and ready to play. Notwithstanding the many hats I wear
within the ICANN family, my roots within the registrar constituency
trace back to Berlin 1999 at the birth of the Registrar constituency.
With regard to the female designated players, I believe both Cynthia
from Microsoft and Margie from MarkMonitor will be in attendance.
Perhaps they can lace up a pair of sneakers and contribute on the pitch
as part of a team effort.
Best regards,
Michael

Hi guys!
I'm honored to join the registrars team! Thank you!
I hope there is room for Francesco Cetraro from Ascio as well.
See you in Lisbon!

As you will recall Mike, I did not want to forfeit our playoff game. I
would never "give up" or fail to honor a commitment. I am ready to help
the registrar team win in Lisbon. Will you be playing for ICANN staff
again?
All,
I have been trying to keep track of those who have committed to play.
In the past, we have had no more than 8 guys on the team when we could
only have 6 players is the field (including the goalie). As John B.
pointed out, the number players that can be on the field appears to have
been increased to 7. It may be good to have 11 or 12 players on the
team so that we can stay fresh and out work our opponents. I suspect
the games will be played on a larger field than Sao Paulo. Since most
of us are out of shape, other than Ross the Tour de Toronto competitor,
we tend to get tired later in the tournament.
Sorry, Tom K., no cross-dressing for me. I am sure that the photos
would be all over the Web even before we took the field. We will have
to find a woman to join our team.

Anyone I missed?

Steve,,
You are the best goalie on the circuit, with the exception perhaps of
the local host ringer.
The more important question the registrars need to answer is will they
honor their commitment to play on the pitch, or will they abandon their
promise to play if some registry offers to take them out for some drinks
as happened in Brazil.
It was unfortunate that the registrars after reaching the playoffs, were
unable to continue because they had to substitute players and the
regular players were just exhausted after playing four qualifying
matches.
Perhaps Jon should make sure that no registries schedule any functions
that evening so that the registrars can continue their impressive
performance dating back to Lux.
Best regards,
Michael

I will play as well if you will still have me as your goalie.
