Hi all,
There is an IDN workshop at lux for which we need a member from the
constituency to act as our representative. Are there any interested folks?
Please read the below email. A volunteer must be savvy with IDNs
Tnx

Hi Bhavin,
As you know there will be an IDN workshop at the Luxembourg meeting, on
Wednesday July 13, 2005.
The main topic for discussion during this workshop will be revision of the
Guidelines for implementation of IDNs, which the gTLD registries are
following. The workshop is not anticipated to result in a final revision of
the Guidelines, but will provide a first step where the community can
provide their input and recommendations for potential changes.
It is my pleasure to ask the registrar constituency for a representative on
this panel discussion. Please note that it is of importance that the panel
member have experience with implementation of IDNs and a full understanding
of the IDN Guidelines. Further it would be great if the registrar
constituency representative have a general understanding of the
recommendations provided in the draft Unicode report (the document is
available online at: http://www.unicode.org/draft/reports/tr36/tr36.html.)
-- as well as a fair level of linguistic interest. I know this is quite some
to ask, but hope it will help you and the constituency to decide on the best
representatives.
Below is an overview of the topic for the workshop. In addition to the
workshop, I am planning a pre-workshop brainstorm/discussion meeting on the
Tuesday. More details will follow.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Best regards,
Tina
II. Session I: Revision of the Guidelines for Implementation of IDNs
Topic Description:
The Guidelines for Implementation of IDNs are a list of general
recommendations and requirements for IDN registration policies and practices
that are designed to minimize the risk of cyber squatting and consumer
confusion, and respect the interests of local languages and character sets.
The Guidelines call on IDN-implementing registries to employ
language-specific registration and administration rules that are documented
and publicly available. gTLD Registries seeking to deploy IDNs under their
agreements with ICANN have been authorized to do so on the basis of the
Guidelines. As the deployment of IDNs proceeds, ICANN and the participating
IDN registries have agreed to work cooperatively to review the Guidelines at
regular intervals based on their deployment experience, and to make any
necessary adjustments.
This panel discussion will provide a basis for the first review of the IDN
Guidelines. The discussions and presentations on this panel will include
topics such as practical experience from registry and registrar communities
on implementation and availability of IDNs, the relationship between
language-based and script-based systems, language table development,
language documentation, decision-making processes on development of tables,
content of the table as well as definition of characters that should not be
available for registration into the DNS as IDNs.
The Guidelines for Implementation of IDNs are available online at:
