Step 1: transfer the domain from one registrar (A) to another registrar
(B)
Step 2: Registrar (B) simply updates registry contact fields as desired
There is no additional action required by the registry. The steps are
the same for thin-thick, and thick-thin, ie the control is with the
registrar of record.
In either case the gaining registrar generally needs to obtain the WHOIS
information for its own records.
Having a standard way of transferring WHOIS information is definitely a
benefit here. At least with the thick model the WHOIS information is in
a standard format. There is no reason why a standard format for
exchange of information cannot be used for the thin model.
