Re: [registrars] ICANN meeting costs
The purpose of absorbing these outrageous travel expenses is exclusively political correctness. I was once several taken to task for pointing out that there is no benefit to ICANN, registries, registrars or any one else in having meetings in places where everyone needs to get special shots just to attend. Now that they have established a precedent of finding the most inconvenient locals for their meetings - and dragging all of us along with them - this practice will be very hard to stop. Registrars too frequently wait until the crisis is upon us before we attempt action and by then it is too late. This is yet another example. I have long argued that ICANN meetings should be self funding. There is a reluctance to have any sort of user pays model except that registrars should pay. E.g the IETF and ISOC charge registration fees to cover the expenses of their meetings. Many of the cctlds attend every ICANN meeting but don't contribute to its costs etc. Regards, Bruce
