If there's time I'd like to find out if they would be open to standardizing
the maintenance notices.

Subject: [registrars] FW: Questions for Registrars Re: EPP
Dear All - in preparation for tomorrow's call on EPP, I wanted to
re-circulate the registries' questions to us. Essentially, the
org/info/biz/name registries are required by contract to migrate to the
latest EPP standard by mid-late August. The com/net registry, while not
obligated to follow this schedule, also has indicated its intent to migrate
at some point.
The registries have indicated their interest in putting off the migration
and making the migration time frame longer if that would be helpful for
registrars to successfully implement the changes and migrate to the new
standard. So, the main question for us to discuss is the timing and staging
of the migration. Also, we should talk about any additional recommendations
from us to the registries, such as syncing of business rules, assistance
with migration, etc.
This call and any email responses to this message will culminate in a
registrar position to be communicated to the registries and ICANN.
The call details, again, are:

Subject: Questions for Registrars Re: EPP
Elana,
Can you please forward these questions on to the Registrars on behalf of the
registries?
Thanks.

*************************************************
With the exception of .com, .net, .aero and .museum, each of the new
registries are required to implement the EPP standard (v.
1.0) no later than 120-135 days after the standard is released. The standard
was released on March 26, 2004. This means,
that these registries are required to implement EPP by no later than late
July/Early August, 2004.
Based on this information, the registries would like to know the following:
1) Is it feasible to require all registrars to complete transition to EPP
1.0 for all of these registries by the dates above. If not, what would be a
date that the registrars could complete full migration?
2) Assuming the Registries were to implement parallel implementations of
their current protocol along side the new
EPP 1.0, would it be feasible to implement that parallel implementation
beginning on August 8, 2004 and allow a transition period in which
registrars could run on either protocol, test with the registries on the new
EPP 1.0, and then convert to EPP v. 1.0 during that transition period.
a) If no, then by what date should this parallel implementation
commence?
b) If yes, how long should a transition period last.
Note that this answer may be different depending on whether a registry is
going from one version of EPP to EPP 1.0 or whether it is going from RRP to
EPP. If there is a difference, please let us know what time frames those
would be.
3) Based on your answers above, would the registrars oppose an extension to
the July/August time frame to address your needs and concerns.
