VeriSign has created a Technical Review Panel to gather and analyze technical data relating to the implementation of VeriSign's Site Finder service.
The Panel will solicit and gather technical facts and issues regarding the implementation of the Site Finder service from interested parties of the Internet community, such as the Internet Architecture Board (IAB) and ICANN's Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SECSAC), and will report its findings to VeriSign for consideration.
The Panel will be chaired by Bruce Tonkin, chief technology officer of Melbourne IT. Bruce is an active member of various ICANN committees including SECSAC and the Council of ICANN"s Generic Names Supporting Organisation (GNSO). Other members include Pradeep Khosla, director, Center for Computer Communications Security at Carnegie Mellon University; Keith Teare, CEO of Santa Cruz Networks; and, Ken Schneider, CTO and VP of Operations, Brightmail. Other Internet experts are also providing assistance as needed.
The Panel's charter shall be to:
Solicit and gather technical information and data regarding the implementation of the Site Finder service from interested parties.
Distill the received information and data to implementation issues.
Based on the implementation issues, determine which issues are based on fact concerning the service.
For each issue associated with the service, determine the likelihood of the issue arising for Internet users, and the consequences of each issue for Internet users.
Based on the resulting factual analysis of the issues, determine what enhancements could be made to improve the service.
Report the observed implementation issues to VeriSign along with any data supporting such issues.
