RE: [ga] Domain is expiring within next 60 days , you CAN'T transfer
Bashar, I don't believe this is a transfer policy issue but rather dependent on the Registrant Registration Agreement with the registrar, which can vary by registrar. I suggest checking the agreement terms related to expiration and renewal in the relevant registrar agreement. One option that could be used in the case you describe is to renew it for one year and then transfer it; your one year renewal would still continue with the new registrar, something that the transfer policy does cover - note the following from the Transfer Policy: 8. Effect on Term of Registration The completion by Registry Operator of a holder-authorized transfer under this Part A shall result in a one-year extension of the existing registration, provided that in no event shall the total unexpired term of a registration exceed ten (10) years. Gomes, Chuck wrote: This may not be a transfer policy issue. It depends on who the registrant is after a name expires. The Transfer Policy clearly requires that there must be an easy mechanism for a registrant to take a name off 'lock' status. But if the former registrant is no longer the registrant, that would not help. The issue of changing the registrant after expiration is another issue, not directly related by the Transfer Policy, but I am not suggesting it should not be discussed. Paul Karkas wrote: not only that, according to the Compliance faq's a registrar may not even prohibit transfer of name that has 'expired' - http://www.icann.org/compliance/faq.html "My domain name has just expired. Can my registrar require me to pay for a renewal before I can transfer to a new registrar? No. Your new registrar of choice can initiate a transfer request on an expired domain name once they receive the required authorization from you. Expiration or nonrenewal of a domain name is not a valid reason for denial of a transfer request. Domain name registration period time constraints, other than during the first 60 days of initial registration or during the first 60 days after a registrar transfer."
