I think this is really good to have.  Can you do it on the actually volume or size of comment?  I really believe this would be more helpful. In developing societies and for those who are constrained by bandwidth the shear size of a post is more telling than the amount of posts. 
   
  Also we probably learn more from some of the longer posts and if there be credit for contribution it should rest there.
   
  Lastly many posts come from "me toos". Short posts that exclaim an agreement with what was stated. While these have no place in technical scientific debate they are most helpful for societal consensus building.
   
  However if none of the above can be quantified and/or qualified i still think the mere counting and the posting of results is helpful.
