Chris,
Let's assume for a moment that your primary language
is Wolof, a language understood by over 8 million
Senegalese as well as a language spoken by significant
populations in The Gambia, Mauritania, Cote d?Ivoire,
Mali, France, Italy, and Spain. You are searching for
a namespace that respects your linguistic needs, an
IDN. You find none, because there are no IDNs in the
root.
Tell me whose need is greater, an English-speaking
trademark owner who has the ability to register in
.com, .pro, .biz, .info, .us, .ws etc. or the speaker
of Wolof that can't find a suitable namespace?
English-speakers may be "running out of good names",
but non-English speakers aren't even at square one in
terms of meaningful choice.
By 2015, Americans will be less than 15% of Internet
users. It's time to give the rest of the world the
gTLDs that they need. That should take priority over
yet another .com clone.
