As good of time as any to revisit Public Relations and Litigation regarding Domain Names and Registries and, what is Power?
Something we should all remember - You cannot sue a Publisher for not Publishing (except the odd case of mandatory retraction)
We should also remember that not all great big IP owners win in court.
http://www.pr.com/press-release/4690 Remember the Verisign Settlement the underlying lawsuit and the subsequent two are about the control of Domain Names.
The huge amounts the chips in these matters represent are only because of an artificially controlled name space. Why doesn't ICANN allow to be put out three new tlds .KOM, .CHOM and .CON. Then let us apply the new standards of IP infringement as recently discussed in Dopa(sp) by the WTO. Bye bye to IBM.con, McDonald.KOM and hello to Whitehouse.chom and sex.kom.
ICANN and Verisign are the Cobra and the Mongoose in an outdoor bazaar, each getting fat from the money in the hat for the act, so neither has a purpose in hurting the other except for show. What a dance they create. And what an illusion we pay for. A full snake does not eat.

Now on PR. Keep in mind PR is like please. Not "to be" or ed, but, "to beg". Really bad PR is shortsided and/or shortsighted and like what Danny pointed out on the V - Settlement list. Really good PR is longterm branding of good qualities and traits, and is done in conjunction with a Marketing that is more education than selling. That is unless you are on the dark side with nasty motives and wrongful goods or services to sell. Then really good marketing is spin and illusion and fun false promises as the devil in forty days and forty nights - or perhaps they are real as first investor in a ponsei scheme. (change countries often or be ICANN or Worldcom - right Vint?)

To join the consumer and dotcommoner into this battle for independence from tyranny over domain names we must take a lesson from the Mongoose and the Cobra. However we would have one serious unbeatable advantage. Goodness.
