LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Christian Bale, who is released from prison at the beginning of "Batman Begins," will return to captivity in his latest film.
The 31-year-old actor will play a Vietnam War-era POW in Werner Herzog's "Rescue Dawn," based on his 1997 documentary "Little Dieter Needs to Fly," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The action film centers on the real-life story of Dieter Dengler (Bale), who joined the U.S. military and became a pilot during the Vietnam War. He's shot down over the Southeast Asian country and captured. He and his fellow captors must now devise a way to escape.

"Sahara's" Steve Zahn will co-star as a twisted POW.
"Rescue Dawn" will begin shooting in mid-August in Thailand.
Zahn next can be heard in Disney's animated "Chicken Little," due out in November, and will star opposite Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz in 2006's "Bandidas."
Bale, currently in theaters with "Batman Begins," next appears in Terrence Malick's upcoming "The New World."
