Joop the only respect I am due is if the words I speak deserve respect.

As to your point, you are correct under two similar forms of governance. Socialism and Communism. I see the merits of both and under Utopian logic they are ideal.
However under the republican/democratic societal governance model, lack of active productive participation, criticism and if necessary civil disobedience are not only rights and priviledges but duties. Notice I said criticism and not cynicism.
ICANN and its' environs are far from perfect and there are constant shennanigans underfoot but my internet is up and running and it is not because of people attacking other people or some government cramming things down our throats. It is due to constant vigilance and efforts by scholars and engineers and businesspeoples and dotcommoners and even lawyers and marketeers.
By business being generally left alone to do its' best to do the most cost effective productive job that it can. I hate it when IP interests infringe on free speech and or when lack of protections in IP stifle incentive to innovate and invent. But It is done best by less control and marketability rather than the other way around. This requires patience and optimism and postive contributions rather than mean spirited attacks against political or social views.

(all that said, in Thailand once I did see the oxen pushing a cart ;-}

With due respect, Eric, don't you have cause and effect reversed here?
