All,

Very recently there have been some concerns expressed by various
church/religious based
and non-church/religious base interest/users groups that have contacted me
with respect
to the fear of a .REL gTLD attracting 'crackpots' that could/would
undermine a .REL name
space. Indeed I would have to agree that such is at least possible IF the
a proposed contract
didn't take such into account. There are many opinions as to how such a
definition of a
'Crackpot' religious organization might be identified or otherwise
recognized prior to
approval of registration in a .REL gTLD name space. I would suggest
however we already
have such domains already long registered in .ORG and .COM currently and
the fear of yet
another such name space brought into existence would serve if done properly
would at least
give haven to legitimate churches and other religious/faith based groups
and as such distinguishing
themselves significantly from already existing 'crackpot' churches/faith
based organizations or
groups. For instance if one does a search using 'crackpot churches' as
their search criterion
one will find around 7m in hit results, most of which are largely not
related directly to the search
criterion. But as most of us in the know recognize that not all search
engines are perfect.
Although Google is an excellent organization, it is unlikely that it has
had divine guidance.

The above said, achieving such contractually would depend on the legal
structure in which
such a contract would be bound to under the relevant law. Such a contract
may require UN
recognition if not outright approval. None the less such an hurdle can be
overcome. In my
country such a hurdle is possible to overcome contractually.

Thank you all for your indulgence in this thread as I realize that some
may find it challenging
on a number of levels and/or from a number of agenda related or motivated
perspectives.
After all the Vatican has it's own ccTLD. Perhaps the Vatican is concerned
about competition?
Perhaps the UN fears to tread on this ground? Perhaps so called self
styled 'Independant
churches' also fear to tread here?

God bless all,
