All,
FWIW, IMO Google did the right thing here. If any DN is involved
or has been noticed to be involved in fraudulent Phishing it should
be expecting to be blocked. Score one brownie point for Google
here! >:)
See:
http://ostermiller.org/ Stephen writes "While phishing is a problem,
giving one company the power to block any site that it wishes at the
browser level never seemed like a good idea. Today
http://www.google.com/search?q=allinurl%3A.mine.nu Google blocked
a host of legitimate web sites by listing mine.nu. mine.nu is available
as a http://www.dyndns.com/ dynamic dns domain and anybody can claim a
sub domain. All sub-domains are blocked regardless of whether phishing
actually occurs on the sub-domain or not. Several Linux enthusiast sites
are caught up in the net including http://hostsfile.mine.nu/ Hostfile
Ad Blocking and http://yui.mine.nu/berry/ Berry Linux Bootable CD."
BTW, same treatment should also be applied to miss configured
DNS as well. Yet Google hasn't quite yet been willing to stand up
on that score yet. Perhaps as more and more users stop using
Google, Googles lack of privacy consideration for it's users garners
further discontent for Google due to it's own DN being still not
fully configured properly potentially exposing users to further
phishing scams/fraud, and ceases to continue to collect PII data
for the use and convenience of the USDOJ without any users prior
knowledge for the USDOJ's own many and varied purposes, and
recognizes that Googles future business expansion may very well
depend on these errors in operational judgment, future scams
of many sorts will subside and a safer Internet will be restored.
