RIO DE JANEIRO: ICANN chairman Peter Dengate Thrush took the opportunity
of the last day of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Rio to urge
everyone at the conference to get involved and participate in ICANN.
"Whoever you are, wherever you are, if you are interested in finding out
more about ICANN, or its work, the door is open," Dengate Thrush said.
"Please walk in."
ICANN's organizational model has been specifically designed to allow
everyone to contribute, from business to governments to the technical
community to everyday Internet users.
There are three supporting organizations and five advisory committees
that make-up ICANN's policy-making processes: every one of these is able
to introduce suggestions for policy change or creation, and make
comments on policy suggestions from others.
"If you want to participate in ICANN's work but don't know where to
start; if you are uncertain about which supporting organization you
should join; or if you are just looking for an explanation about how the
organization works, please just email us," Dengate Thrush added. "We
have set up a single email address to deal with requests, and we will be
glad to hear from you."
The email address, get-involved@xxxxxxxxx, is intended to help people
understand ICANN's structure and system and direct people to the
representatives of the most appropriate supporting organizations or
advisory committee for assistance.
To make that process simpler and more efficient, please arrange your
email in the following way.

What would you like to know (e.g. how ICANN makes decisions; how to join
a particular support organization)?
